Saxophone #3

By Victor Yepez
Welded metal
$3,000

This sculptural saxophone rises skyward like a gesture of sound frozen in motion. Constructed from welded found and recycled metal—curved steel strips, rings, rods, and perforated elements—the piece transforms industrial remnants into a lyrical form. The open framework allows light and air to pass through, creating shifting shadows and a sense of movement, as if the instrument were mid-note, releasing music into the sky. The upward tilt and elongated silhouette suggest breath, rhythm, and aspiration—an homage to jazz, improvisation, and the expressive power of music. Each welded connection is intentionally visible, honoring the history of the materials while celebrating transformation and renewal. The contrast between rigid metal and fluid curves mirrors the tension between structure and spontaneity found in music itself. Designed for outdoor display, the sculpture engages its surroundings—the blue sky, changing light, and passing viewers—inviting them to imagine sound where there is silence. It stands as a symbol of creativity, resilience, and the universal language of music emerging from reclaimed urban materials.

ABOUT THE ARTIST:
I strongly believe that art is for everybody. In my sculpture I utilize recycled materials because of their aesthetic properties and also with an ecological message for future generations. My hope is that my work will play a role in creating a positive future with respect for the earth, justice and dignity for everyone. I graduated with a degree in sculpture and print making from the School of Fine Arts, Central University in Quito, Ecuador.  Since immigrating to the U.S. in 1997, I have worked as a sculptor, muralist, art teacher and public artist.  My art is inspired by everything around me, made with passion and love, limitless and indestructible. Everyday reality meets with my imagination, freely creating a language, which allows me to express myself. Mind, spirit, body, and soul come together to reach the muses. I use materials, tools, colors, and forms to prepare and walk the path of creativity. Then the magic moment comes to embrace and incubate the idea with scenes full of life.
